Substack is great for organic reach. And it’s free.
But if doesn’t allow you to send automatic email sequences, such as email courses, segment your audience, or set up advanced automations.
Your best choice for all of the above is probably Kit (formerly ConvertKit). So, to have the best of both worlds, you need to copy your subscribers from Substack to Kit.
But… Substack doesn’t even have APIs. There’s no way to automatically connect it to any other tool.
So, some creators manually export subscribers from Substack and then manually import them into Kit. But this approch is problematic:
subscribers are never immediately synced,
to differentiate paid subscribers from free subscribers, you have to manually tag them, or export them in multiple batches,
likewise if you want to differentiate between yearly, monthly, or founding paid subscribers.
Fortunately, I hate wasting time. So, I built an automation that does all of the above.

When everything is set up, the automation will:
immediately import free subscribers to Kit,
tag paid subscribers,
tag monthly, yearly, or founding members,
downgrade from paid to free,
remove subscribers who unsubscribe.
