This is great advice. I think Iβve definitely misaligned conscious and unconscious goals. I think in some ways Iβm even struggling to quite clearly define my unconscious goals.
How do you think one best goes about fully grasping unconscious goals?
But if youβve chosen a goal like βI want to be a published authorβ that has to sit above all the others.
So you have to be ok with being a failure to your parentsβ¦or have the whole world laugh at your silly book.
These things are not to be underestimated. The psychological immune system is literally trying to protect you from making those kind of mistakes and if you are not aware of it the goal of βnot disappointing your parentsβ sits high above that of becoming a published authorβ¦which means you will never get there unless you are brutally honest with yourself.

Great article Ben! I appreciate your honesty and insight. I think you can be both a creator and a entrepreneur, but you have to choose which one you want to prioritize. There is no shame in monetizing your craft or in creating with no intent to monetize. But you have to be upfront with your audience about it. And always stay authentic to yourself and what you really want - people can tell right away if you're not.
Thanks Charlie. Yes I donβt think there is necessarily a right or wrong way you just have to be very clear on what it is that you want. Being stuck in the middle is the worst

I think most of us have unconscious goals like:
βI donβt want to look stupidβ
βI want to be popularβ
βI donβt want to disappoint my parentsββ¦
But if youβve chosen a goal like βI want to be a published authorβ that has to sit above all the others.

Yes, and you have to be clear with yourself in the first place.
Self-awareness is key
