There is one tactic that guarantees fastest growth and better engagement on any social network. You probably now what it is: engaging with other creators.

It works like this:

1. find creators in your niche, with a following not much larger than yours,

2. read their content daily,

3. leave thoughtful comments,

4. repeat.

Over time, you may become friends with them. And their followers will come and check your profile. Since those creators are in a similar niche, some of their followers will become your followers.

But there’s a problem.

How do you keep engaging with the right creators?

Your engagement needs to be as sincere as possible. You want to find people you’d like to invite for dinner.

But you can’t trust the algorithm to show you all their posts. It may prioritize other, bigger or more prolific creators.

A fellow member in a community had this problem. She wrote:

I used to get bogged down by so many people on Substack and whom to follow and how to continue to keep the conversation with them. But with a spreadsheet it is really easy.

She needed a spreadsheet to keep track of her favorite creators and of her interactions with them.

I’ve had the same issue. Once in a while I wonder “There was that promising and interesting creator. Has she disappeared?”

As always, we need intention and systems to achieve the results we want.

Merging my interests

My Italian business focuses on productivity tools for freelancers and small businesses. I published dozens of Notion tutorials.

So, I thought, why don’t I create a Notion database to remember my favorite creators and track my engagement? It can be very convenient and fast.

I did it. And I think it’s pretty cool! (If I say so myself 😎)
